Good to see a company thats audience are all age spectrums from parents who let there kids play to the elderly, promoting addictions such as online gambling. Nice work CCP.. very responsable.
Perhaps you can see if Philip Morris could do a promotion next time or maybe sell cigarettes in the EVE store.

Edited by: Felix Cole on 29/05/2006 09:06:55 The people running this arent doing this just cause they like EVE. They are doing it to bring more traffic and prospective gamblers to there site to play the other games that arent free.
This is turn promotes gambling and makes it attractive to people who dont normally play. People will go to the site and see other things that catch there eye and give it a shot, and lose real money.
If you want to call me names fine. Maybe a moderator will do something about it *shrug* who knows.
However my point is that if you take off your rose coloured glasses and see this really as just blatant cross promotion to attract new gamblers to there website intsead of a way to give EVE players some fun you might see why this isnt so great.
Gambling is a addiction like cigarettes and I think a company like CCP is silly associating themselves with this competition no matter how fun it is.

Edited by: Felix Cole on 29/05/2006 09:56:14 I dont think I was ****** and moaning about anything. I thought I gave a constructive and concise reason why I thought this was a bad promotion to support on CCPs behalf. Obviously my first post was dripping with sarcasim and for that I apologise but I dont think that either post has been a whine.
Perhaps you could give some reasons why im wrong that relate to gambling rather then just bringing up cola products and driving examples as to why Gambling is healthy over the internet and why CCP are doing its customers a service promoting such activities?
Please enlighten me as to why this is good for the EVE community..
*my edit fixed some grammer and added a small portion to the end*

Yes that may be the case, but as the links I have posted show, Online Gambling such as this is a way to start the ball rolling for younger people and get them addicted sooner, hence one of the reasons I am against it.

Pride I didnt reply instantly to it sorry as Ive been cooking and eating dinner. I acctually thought you made some very valid points. However while I can accept some of what your saying about parents responabilities etc, the problem as I see it is that it isnt so cut and dried in my opinion.
I do agree parents need to be more proactive in there approach to the internet, but I also think the companies supplying services such as computer game companies (since games are so attractive to younger audiences) are also responsible for the content of there games and also there message boards.
You can see CCP taking a responsability for its boards by the simple fact it has blocked certain swear words, and has moderators to make sure the rules are followed who modify or delete certain content here. That in itself shows they are willing to take a stand against behaviour that is not suitable to protect there customer base. So why would they allow gambling advertising?
To me it seems very irresponsable for a Computer gaming company who supplies services to children and adults to help advertise for online gambling companies and competitions they host.
As for the debate that EVE is a game where you take a gamble just leaving space, thats all good and well, but you are not terribly likely to get yourself in real life financial trouble or start yourself down a road of a very harmful addiction doing so.
I do understand it was just a fun competition for most of our community and Im sorry if I have offended people, but I honestly think CCP needs to take even a small amount of responability in protecting there customers.
I cant really bring up smoking or other vices since it doesnt exactly relate to the topic at hand.

Edited by: Felix Cole on 29/05/2006 14:43:37 What concerns me is that this thread shows no negatives to gambling at all. Fine its a free competition, but its being held on a site where gambling for real money takes place.
As for comparing this to FanFest advertising, the fanfest was a CCP run, 4Kings Poker competitions arent as CCP clearly stated.
It promotes gambling, not EVE and not once has CCP shown any responsability by warning people of the risks of gambling.
